Student Preparation

Welcome to the Amazing Angel Shake competition! This competition places an emphasis on teaching students manners, discipline, respect, and professional conduct. First impressions are powerful. Often, before there is sufficient time to demonstrate abilities, the first impression is already cast.  At Incarnate Word Academy, we work to ensure that our students are socially and academically prepared, confident, and able to represent themselves exceptionally well. 

Your Challenge: Each student will have 3 minutes to pitch an innovative idea that:

1) Enhances the traveler experience at CCIA

2) Increases tourism to Corpus Christi

3) Attracts new airline routes to the airport

 

After your pitch, the judges—airport leadership will ask follow-up questions to test your criticalthinking, adaptability, and industry knowledge.

 

How to Prepare

  • Develop & Refine Your Pitch – Your idea should be creative, realistic, and beneficial totravelers and the city. Make sure it’s clear, engaging, and persuasive.

  • Know Your Industry – Research Corpus Christi tourism, airline industry trends, andCCIA’s role in regional travel. Use facts to support your idea.

  • Practice Answering Questions – Anticipate questions and practice calm, confidentresponses.

  • Master Professionalism – Dress professional, maintain good posture and eye contact, andspeak clearly and enthusiastically.

 

Sample Follow-Up Questions

  • What specific problem does your idea solve, and how?

  • How would you measure the success of your idea?

  • What challenges might arise in implementing your idea, and how would you address them?

  • Can you give an example of another airport or city with a similar concept?

Only 4 students will advance to Round 5: The Heat is On!

 

This is your chance to impress real-world leaders—bring your best pitch and own the stage!

In order to prepare, all participants should consider answers to these sample questions

  • Who is someone who inspires you to be a better person?

  • Tell me about a time you overcame adversity and what you learned.

  • What’s the most important quality of a leader?

  • Name a leader in history you admire.

  • I run a Fortune 500 company. Why should we hire you?

  • How would your friends/teachers/family describe you? 

  • How do you deal with pressure or stressful situations?

  • If your life had a theme song, what would it be and why?

  • If you could bottle up one feeling forever, what would it be?

  • If your mind was a physical place, what would it look like?

  • What’s a small act of kindness that has stuck with you for years?

  • How do you handle constructive criticism in a professional setting?

  • How do you balance honesty and tact when delivering news or feedback?

  • What does integrity mean to you and how do you apply it in school?

Amazing Angel Shake participants should also be ready to discuss:

Research and be familiar with the most recent headlines leading up to the competition. Students may be asked a question about a current event that occurs within 48-72 hours of the competition.

As part of the Gauntlet, you will be pitching an idea in 60 seconds to the judge, delivering a winning case. A genius new app: Create an app that would make life easier for students, teachers, and parents.

As part of the Gauntlet be familiar with the following: Disney Wish Cruise Line, Antiques Roadshow, Super Bowl LIX
